HISTORY

The half-bred daughter of a human male and the fertility goddess, Nimba, who was worshipped by the Simo Society of Guinea, Veeya became a lovelorn demon, feeding off people's despair borne over tragic loss. For several decades, Veeya forged a partnership with Anyanka, patron of scorned women: she handled the grief and sadness while Anyanka handled the vengeance end. Their partnership ended for reasons that have not yet been revealed, but it has been hinted that Anyanka made Veeya cranky by trying to take away the grief away from her. Veeya was eventually trapped in a casket by a group of Sumerians, who wanted to right a wrong she did to them, and dumped the casket in the ocean, hoping she she would never reemerge.

Shortly after Buffy's death, Veeya's casket was discovered at a construction site in Sunnydale. Xander brought the casket to the Scoobies to inspect, but the mixed emotions the Scoobies felt from losing Buffy inadvertantly released Veeya from her deep slumber. Looking for the biggest glowing blob of depression she could absorb, Veeya went to the one person who's grief was worse than the Scoobies: Spike, the vampire in love with Buffy. The Scoobies saved Spike from Veeya, and killed her by celebrating Buffy's life instead of her death.
