HISTORY

Attempting to alleviate the emotional turmoil Buffy was going through over her parents divorce, her secret admirer, Angel only made matters worse when he used black magic. Accidentally unleashing malignancy spirits, Anges unintentionally exacerbated all of the real palpable pain the Summers' family is going through.

First dealing with the specter of Deceit that hovered over her parent's frayed marriage, Buffy was fueled with suspicions by the malignancy spirit, that her father had been cheating on her mother. During confrontation however, Buffy learned that father was innocent of adultery. The only thing her parents were guilty of was falling out of love. The second spirit, Guilt, exacerbated the dark emotions Buffy felt, and nearly succeeded in convincing her to commit suicide. Buffy managed to see through Guilt's manipulation and decided that she felt guilty about being guilty, which laid the second Malignancy Spirit to rest.

The third spirit, Abandonment, was a manifestation of the black despairing void within Buffy and Dawn over their father moving out of the house and leaving them alone. The malignancy spirit was Abandonment Malignancydefeated when Buffy and Dawn realized that the empty void they felt was simplysomething waiting tobe filled -- hope for the future.

As Buffy prepared to move to Sunnydale for a fresh start with her mother and sister, Angeltried to exorcise the malignancy spirits he summoned, could only reroute them to another location: a Hellmouth located underneath Sunnydale. With another Malignancy Spirit to deal with, Buffy and her family were now forced to face the Trepidation of moving to a new town with a gnawing fear of the new and change creeping into their minds… as well as every other resident of Sunnydale. Uncertain about anything and everything, the residents of Sunnydale allowed Trepidation to take free out of their hands. During confrontation with the final spirit, Buffy faced her fears regarding her role as the Slayer and the huge responsibility that that entailed. During a brief moment of distraction, the spirit became vulnerable and gave Buffy the ability to defeat it.
