HISTORY

During a routine patrol, Buffy saved a girl from a vampire attack. The girl, Verona, actually wanted to be sired by the vampire, and sought revenge against Buffy for ruining her chance at immortality. Verona summoned the guardian of the cemetery, Baron Samedi, promising him VeronaBuffy's soul in exchange for immortality. Samedi summoned maggots in Buffy's backpack and rats in the kitchen of Buffy's college. Trying to get to the bottom of who was trying to gross her out, Buffy headed to the cemetary again where she was attacked and rendered unconscious by an army of zombies. Buffy was nearly sacrificed had it not been for the timely intervention of Spike, who spoiled for a good fight. Disappointed in Verona, Samedi took her soul as payment instead and left.

Verona's mother blamed her daughter's death on Buffy's carelessness and plotted her revenge, gathering a thousand vampires that were in a state of hibernation. Following a diary left by the nefarious alchemist, Doc Flitter, Verona's mother planned to awaken them up at the stroke of midnight and unleash them against the Slayer. Her plan went off schedule when she lost the actvation key to Buffy, who mistook the device for a garage opener and accidentally awoke the sleeping vampires. The device activated the sleeping vampires before midnight, rendering the legion into morons that instead attacked anything in sight, including themselves. Buffy managed to dust every last one of them, giving her a slayer-sized workout, but was unable to save the mother from meeting her daughter's terrible fat, which revived Buffy's grief of having just lost her own mother recently.
