Whedonverse Sales Chart Positions
ICv2.com released sales estimates for July 2008 based on Diamond Indexes and Publisher Title Data. Buffy Season Eight #16 sold 82,031 copies, maintaining its top ten position in 10th place; Angel: After the Fall #10 ranked 51st with 43,024 sold; Spike: After the Fall #1 sold 36,974 with a strong debut at 59th place.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight News
Buffy editor Scott Allie also has participated in a Q+A style interview with SlayAlive.com, regarding Season Eight. Spoilers ahead.

In an interview with Wizard, Brad Meltzer discusses among other things, the secrecy around his Buffy stint. On the subject he had the following to say: "I'm toward the end and so I actually get some time. What I think is the most important thing right now about Buffy isand this is what mattered to me — is whenever I watch any show, I like to believe that there is some grand treasure map that's being followed as opposed to, 'Let's make this crap up as we go along.' And I can tell you from the very first e-mail before the very first issue was out, I saw the treasure map. And it is breathtaking."

Serenity News
Serenity: Better Days is being collected, and early next year, another three-issue series will focus on the origin story of Shephard. The creative team has not been "ironed out," but Whedon will be working with another writer similar to what was done with Better Day. The series will also feature a different art team than previously.

Buffy Season Eight @ San Diego Comic Con
At the Dark Horse Comics Panel at San Diego Comic Con it was announced that Season Eight will finish up a crossover with characters from Whedon's former comic series Fray, then Jeph Loeb is coming on for a single issue. Jane Espenson, who was a writer for the Buffy television show, will kick off a five-issue arc featuring stories by the show's TV writers. In the story, Buffy's world goes public. Vampires become common knowledge and it changes everything for the slayers. Following that arc, Espenson comes back for a five-issue arc featuring Oz. Then Brad Meltzer will be writing five issues before the series wraps up.

Brian Lynch announced that Angel After the Fall will be retitled Aftermath in #17, and see the cast of characters dealing with the repercussions to come out of #16. Novelist Jennifer Armstrong will join Lynch in this latest chapter.

Nick Runge's last issue on interiors is #11, but will be proving a two-page sequence for #12, when Stephen Mooney takes over art chores.

Along for the ride in this series are Illyria, who has a tendency to revert back to Fred at inopportune times, as well as Angel's Dragon, and a new cast of characters as well. Most importantly, the series introduces a character who will come to be see as Spike's arch-nemesis. Even more than Angel.

Brad Meltzer discussed with Newsarama about how he got involved with Buffy Season Eight: "I got the secretive e-mail with the blood oath attachment from [Joss] that asked if I was in or I was out. Of course, I said I was in, and then came the second e-mail with another blood oath, and a blood rite, and that one had the grand plan of what was happening in the series."

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Tarot
Dark Horse Comics has provided a look at more of the upcoming cards from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Tarot Deck, written and conceived by renowned tarot writer Rachel Pollack. Pollack teamswith Buffy artist Paul Lee on the fully-painted 78 card deck, which draws upon characters, themes, and legends from all eight seasons of Joss Whedon's work.

This deck was created by Pollack not merely as a collector's item, but as an actual, working tarot deck: the cards come with a book explaining their divinatory meanings and use. The traditional symbols of the tarot are reinterpreted through the vision of Whedon's Buffy universe. The deck will be available August 13.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight News
Georges' Buffy Sketch Buffy #12 took sixth place for March. ICV2 estimates that the issue shipped 88,930 copies to North American comic book stores. The hype for #12 (which turned out to be the Buffy/Satsu romance) led to an increase of around 900 copies on the previous month. Also in March, Serenity: Better Days #1 came in at no. 26 with 62,300 copies shipped and Angel: After The Fall #5 took 31st place, shipping 49,558 copies.

According to the Blog@Newsarama, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 #1 was named Comic Book of the Year Under $3 and Licensed Comic of the Year" at Diamond's 2007 Gem Awards.

Wizard "200 Gold" Issue ranked Whedon's Astonishing X-Men #3 as the 14th greatest comic since 1991. Whedon's Giant Size Astonishing X-Men and Runaways #30 have been delayed until sometime this month according to the latest Diamond Distribution list.
