In other news, Wizard Magazine #202 has ranked Joss Whedon no. 3 of the "Hot 10 Writers" list, for his return to Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight The 'DH 100' variant of Serenity #1 has dropped a peg to no. 5 on Wizard's "Top 5 Premiums" list.

Angel After the Fall: First Night Solicitation
The second hardcover collection of IDW's smash-hit Angel: After the Fall series plotted by Joss Whedon and Brian Lynch, scripted by Lynch, and this time featuring an array of talented artists. "First Night" begins! What happened on the very night Los Angeles went straight to hell, the incident that ended the Angel television series with such a shocking cliffhanger? Why did the team go their separate ways? And how did Connor rise up to become one of Hell's greatest champions? John Byrne, Davud Messina, Nick Runge, and many other artists contribute the multiple tales in this hardcover volume. Out September 2008.

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer Tarot Deck has been cancelled. Dark Horse released the following statement: "Due to circumstances beyond our control, Dark Horse will not be producing the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Tarot Deck. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, but no existing orders will be filled. We appreciate your support of this program, and again apologize to those who placed advance orders and to fans alike."
MySpace Dark Horse Presents Vol. 1 TPB, which features Joss Whedon's complete rock'n'roll saga Sugarshock!, comes out October 15. Serenity: Better Days TPB, which collects the mini-series of the same name, comes out October 29. Marvel Comics is releasing a hardcover collection of Joss Whedon's Runaways #25-30, "Dead End Kids." IDW Publishing has released the solicitation info for Angel After the Fall #12: "LAst issue, Angel and Gunn were reunited. Unsurprisingly, it didn't go very well, and it's about to get worse. Gunn's master plan has comes to light, and it not only does it have horrifying repercussions for Angel and his friends, it could spell disaster for all of Los Angeles." Available Sept.

The Buffy: Wolves at the Gate TPB has a November 5th release date. The solicitation reads as follows: Vampires that, at will, can transform into wolves, panthers, insects, or fog invade the Slayer base of operations in northern Scotland, and not only walk away unscathed, but in possession of Buffy’s scythe, the symbol of Slayer power worldwide. Buffy and the Slayer legion travel to Tokyo in order to learn more about their dangerous new foes, as Xander journeys to Transylvania to solicit the only person they’ve ever known to possess such power: Dracula. The celebrated Buffy Season Eight continues with Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, Lost) writing Wolves at the Gate, with Joss Whedon continuing his role as executive producer, and Georges Jeanty as series artist. Includes the stand-alone issue written by Buffy creator Joss Whedon, “A Beautiful Sunset.”

Volume Five of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Omnibus series begins immediately after Season Three, after Sunnydale High has gone up in flames. Buffy is plagued by dreams of fellow Slayer Faith, who now lies in a comma. Jane Espenson, the celebrated writer from the Buffy TV show, writes the powerful Faith story Haunted. And as summer comes to an end, Buffy and Willow begin their first year of college in The Blood of Carthage, in a story written by acclaimed Buffy novelist Christopher Golden. Meanwhile Buffy embarks on a new romance with Riley Finn, and Willow and Oz's relationship comes to an end in Golden's Oz: Into the Wild. This volume also features work by Buffy Season Eight contributors Cliff Richards and Paul Lee and Brian Horton.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Tarot
Dark Horse Comics has provided a look at more of the upcoming cards from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Tarot Deck, written and conceived by renowned tarot writer Rachel Pollack. Pollack teamswith Buffy artist Paul Lee on the fully-painted 78 card deck, which draws upon characters, themes, and legends from all eight seasons of Joss Whedon's work.
This deck was created by Pollack not merely as a collector's item, but as an actual, working tarot deck: the cards come with a book explaining their divinatory meanings and use. The traditional symbols of the tarot are reinterpreted through the vision of Whedon's Buffy universe.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 News
Buffy #12 took sixth place for March. ICV2 estimates that the issue shipped 88,930 copies to North American comic book stores. The hype for #12 (which turned out to be the Buffy/Satsu romance) led to an increase of around 900 copies on the previous month. Also in March, Serenity: Better Days #1 came in at no. 26 with 62,300 copies shipped and Angel: After The Fall #5 took 31st place, shipping 49,558 copies.
According to the Blog@Newsarama, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 #1 was named Comic Book of the Year Under $3 and Licensed Comic of the Year" at Diamond's 2007 Gem Awards. |

Wizard "200 Gold" Issue ranked Whedon's Astonishing X-Men #3 as the 14th greatest comic since 1991. Whedon's Giant Size Astonishing X-Men and Runaways #30 have been delayed until sometime this month according to the latest Diamond Distribution list.
Whedon's rock'n'roll saga Sugarshock!, a fun-filled story about a quirky girl named Dandelion and her love of music (and hatred of Vikings), is getting printed and collected in the MySpace Dark Horse Presents Vol. 1. Out Sept. 17. |
