Wesley Wyndham-Pryce was a Watcher, a member of a secret organization that battles evil and trains Vampire Slayers, until he was subsequently fired for his failure to control two Slayers. His early appearances showed him to be clean-cut, pompous, and a bit of a brownnoser, reporting fellow member Rupert Giles to the Council Travers upon discovering that Giles intended to dabble in forbidden magicks. (BtVS: Viva Las Buffy)
After being fired from the Watcher's Council, Wesley began working at the supernatural detective agency, Angel Investigations, filling the void that their recently deceased member Doyle left. There, Wesley put his vast knowledge of demonology as well as his talent for translating and interpreting many non-human languages to good use. (Angel: Hunting Ground, Autumnal, Strange Bedfellows, Long Night’s Journey)

Wesley's path became filled with tragedies and difficult choices, when he was convinced by a prophecy that Angel would kill his newborn son Connor. With the intention of taking him to safety, Wesley betrayed his friends by kidnapping Connor, but his plan went terribly wrong, resulting in the baby being taken to a hell dimension.
(flashback in Angel: The Curse)

Wesley was eventually let back into the fold, and became infatuated with one of the female additions, Winifred 'Fred' Burkle. Fred, however, did not pick up on Wesley's affections for her, instead pursuing a relationship with another co-worker, Knox. When Knox was stricken down with a lethal venom, Wesley was forced to deal with his own affections for Fred and their ramifications, when he was left with the choice to let Knox die or save his life. Wesley chose to cure Knox of his condition, rather sacrificing his chances to be with Fred in order to see her happy regardless of who she was with.
(Angel Spotlight: Wesley)
Wesley finally got together with Fred, only to lose her shortly after, when her body was occupied by the spirit of Illyria, an Old One known as Illyria. This tragedy left Wesley a broken man, leaving with him with little to live for other than to help Illyria understand the world. (Angel: Masks: Unacceptable Losses)
When Angel proposed to attack the Circle of the Black Thorn, the secret arm of the Senior Partners, Wesley agreed to challenge a demon sorcerer named Cyvus Vail, who proved too powerful and killed Wesley. (Angel: Not Fade Away)

Following his death, Wesley became a ghost due to the standard perpetuity clause in his Wolfram & Hart contract to keep him working for the company even after death. Becoming the liaison between the Senior Partners and the now Hell-based L.A. branch of Wolfram and Hart and permanently trapped in one of his old suits, Wesley unsuccessfully tried to contact a higher power – Cordelia to save Los Angeles, but she was unable to exert any influence in Wolfram & Hart's domain. As a ghost, he was also reunited with Fred, really Illyria who would manifest Fred’s appearance and personality whenever Wesley was around.
(Angel: After the Fall)
