Season Four - Five

Tara, Season Four    A member of UC Sunnydale's Wicca group, Tara encountered Willow Rosenberg, also a practicing witch. Sharing a lot in common, the two got together on a regular basis to practice; the nature of their relationship soon became romantic. After Willow came out to her friends, Tara became accepted into the ranks of the Scooby Gang, aiding Buffy in her battle against the forces of darkness. (BtVs: Past Lives, Out of the Woodwork)

Though Tara was not nearly as outspoken as Willow about it, both were unfulfilled by the Wicca group they were part of, whose other members were not only uninterested in spell casting, but didn't believe in it all. Except for Caitlin Macklin. Though she believed in magic, she was a novice who became envious of Willow and Tara's relationship. When Tara tried to tell Caitlin that she was not prepared to be casting spells, Caitlin became hurt and decided to prove herself. Casting a protection spell that backfired on her, Caitlin accidentally sent forth a deity to target anyone Caitlin perceived as a threat, murdering several members of the Wicca group overnight. Willow and Tara confronted Caitlin, and took it upon themselves to save the day by destroying the deity with the help of the surviving members of the Wicca group. (Willow & Tara: Wannablessedbe)

Tara had been with the Scooby Gang for more than a year yet she still felt unwelcome by some of the Scoobies. Willow's lifelong best friend, Xander had doubts that Tara was right for Willow. Tara herself was envious of Willow's friendships with Buffy and Xander. When demon manifestations of jealousy were accidentally released, tempers and emotions flared up as the demons attempted to manipulate Tara and the others to kill one another. Once the demons were defeated by Buffy, Tara and the others returned to normal and the two couples put aside their differences. Since then, Tara was accepted by all of the Scoobies and treated as an equal. (BtVs: Ugly Little Monsters)

Season Six

Tara, Season SixDeciding to take a break from their daily life of slaying vampires and demons in Sunnydale, Willow and Tara decided to vacation with Buffy's sister, Dawn. While checking out magical power spots and haunted beaches, the Wiccans and their young apprentice came across a town just off the Pacific Coast Highway where bizarre events were occurring. Ever since logging companies had come into town to cut down the trees of the town's forest, the forest animals attacked and killed any human who wandered too far into the woods. Suspecting magic at work, Willow, Tara and Dawn decided to investigate, discovering that a furious Greenjack filled the forest animals with fear that the humans would destroy their home and that they had to strike first. The Wiccans tried to persuade Greenjack to stop his war against the human world, but he refused to listen and decided that they posed a threat to him as well. Not wanting to simply kill him, Willow and Tara tried to come up with alternate solutions, but the Greenjack kept coming back, angrier each time. They were finally forced to burn him alive, hoping he would grow into something more peaceful next time. They then cast a protection spell over the sacred grounds of the forest, so that no human would ever be able enter that patch of earth again. (Willow & Tara: Wilderness)

Returning to Sunnydale, Willow's magic addiction caused Tara to leave her. During their time apart, Tara stayed away from the Scooby Gang, but still maintained a close relationship with Buffy and helped her when an old enemy resurfaced, seeking revenge against Buffy. Tara later reconciled with Willow but their reunion was brief, when a stray bullet struck and killed Tara instantly. (BtVs: Creatures of Habit, Withdrawal)
